Come to the River – CJM

Dear Friends

We come together tonight to share his holy sacraments. This is a safe space, where all may find a welcome at the table. Tonight we reflect on the gift of baptism, as the living water is freely offered to cleanse, renew and heal: to remind ourselves that we are immersed in a love which is unquestioning, uncompromising and as wide as the ocean.

Let us begin, by spending some time reflecting on a key line or Scripture which comes to us today on this theme. Take time over it’s words and phrases and allow them to soak into you, and see what you make of them, and what they make of you, in a process a little like divine reading or lectio divina…

Scripture: Revelation 22:17

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Lectio-style meditation:

Penitential Rite, renewal of baptismal vows.

In baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his marvellous light. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising to new life with him. Therefore I ask:

Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God?
We reject them.

Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?
We renounce them.

Do you repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour?
We repent of them.

Do you turn to Christ as Saviour?
We turn to Christ.

Do you submit to Christ as Lord?
We submit to Christ.

Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life?
We come to Christ.

The congregation are sprinkled

Oil of Baptism

The Priest makes the sign of the cross on each person

To each person
Christ +claims you for his own.
Receive the sign of the cross.
Do not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified.

At the end
Fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ against sin, the world and the devil, and remain faithful to Christ to the end of your life.

May almighty God +deliver you from the powers of darkness, forgive you your sins, restore in you the image of his glory, and lead you in the light and obedience of Christ.

Intercession (led by Stu)

Take a leather lace.
Tie your first knot as you commit to pray for a family member.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Tie a second knot and pray for a friend.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Tie a third knot and decide to pray for your local MP regardless of their politics.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

As you tie your fourth knot, remember in your prayers, a member of clergy.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Tie a final knot
and choose to lovingly pray for a person you dislike.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Finally, tie the knotted lace to the wrist of somebody here in this room
and promise to pray for them.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Lord be with you
and also with you

Lift up your hearts
We lift them to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right to give thanks and praise

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,
we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

You give to us new life in waters of baptism
Pour out your blessings with the oils of life
Wrap us in the cloak of purity
And lead us towards
Christ our Light

This season and every season the joy of the resurrection renews the whole world,
while the choirs of heaven
sing for ever to your glory:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord
God of Power and Might
Heaven & Earth are full of your glory
Hosanna in the highest

Blessed are they who come in the name of the Lord
Hosanna in the highest.

Eucharistic Prayer B

Video: Padre Pio Loop (Manual Start)

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness;
grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit,
and according to your holy will,
these gifts of bread and wine
may be to us the +body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed,
took bread and gave you thanks;
he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take, eat; this is my body
which is given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper
he took the cup and gave you thanks;
he gave it to them, saying:
Drink this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for you and for all
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me.

Let us proclaim the mystery of faith…
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross,
his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins
of the whole world;
rejoicing in his mighty resurrection
and glorious ascension,
and looking for his coming in glory,
we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we offer you this our sacrifice
of praise and thanksgiving,
we bring before you this bread and this cup
and we thank you for counting us worthy
to stand in your presence and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people
and gather into one in your kingdom
all who share this one bread and one cup,
so that we, in the company of
Our Blesséd Lady, and all the saints,
may praise and glorify you for ever,
through Jesus Christ our Lord;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father,
for ever and ever.
